12th Annual Mount Veeder Appellation Tasting

Tuesday, July 12th, 2011

On Saturday, September 24, 2011, over 20 Mount Veeder wineries will gather for the 12th Annual Mount Veeder Appellation Tasting at Hess Collection Winery. Guests will taste exceptional, profound wines created from this off the beaten path appellation located west of Napa in the Mayacamas mountains.

There will be plenty of delicious nibbles to pair with the wines and live music to enjoy. Guests will meet the winemakers who have gladly accepted the challenges of the unique Mount Veeder terrain and who have turned that challenge into an opportunity to create unforgettable wines. One of the numerous reasons why this event is extremely special is that some of the wineries in the Mount Veeder appellation do not have tasting rooms where wine-lovers can purchase their favorite wines. This event grants special access to these wines. Guests will be invited to participate in an exciting raffle where the prize is a Mount Veeder cellar.

Mount Veeders Summit 12th Annual Mount Veeder Appellation Tasting

Mount Veeder's Summit

Since the 1860’s the beauty of this special place has attracted many vintners. Nature has presented a demanding, mountainous landscape where the ingenuity of winemakers has resulted in specialized practices performed by hand, and vineyards planted from the lowest point at 400 feet to the highest point at 2,400 feet. With the longest growing season and lowest yields in Napa Valley, the Mount Veeder appellation is not for those who give up quickly. Visitors to this 12th annual event will sip the rewards of determination and appreciate the emphasis on quality over quantity.

Hess Collection Winery is the perfect location for this event in its 12th year. The historic stone building, built in 1903 is also home to Donald Hess’ impeccable private art collection beautifully displayed in his Contemporary Art Museum. The event takes place in the shade of Wysteria plants flowing over the pergola in the Hess Collection garden. Last year, Hess Collection Chef Chad Hendrickson created tasty bites of chicken and steak skewers, Baba Ganoush, an artisan cheese platter, and more.

Bardessono in Napa Valley invites you, your friends, and family to share Christmas Eve or Christmas Day dinner with a special menu created by Bardessono Executive Chef Sean O’Toole. In keeping with Bardessono restaurant’s commitment to using fresh local ingredients, Chef O’Toole has created a multi-course menu incorporating ingredients from local farms.

For the first course, guests can choose between Maine Lobster Cappuccino or Hill Family Farm Sunchoke Soup. This is the first of many difficult choices from this exciting menu! The Maine Lobster Cappuccino, served with chestnut, candy cap mushrooms, and Meyer lemon, tastes like a classic lobster bisque and is topped with froth. The Sunchoke, with its delicate flavor similar to a cross between jicama and water chestnuts, combines deliciously with croutons and the aromatic black trumpet mushrooms.

Two salads will be served family style: Winter Salad of Hale Farm apples, avocado, candied walnuts, and black truffle vinaigrette; and Star Route Farm Beet Salad of pistachios, sylvetta (wild, organic arugula), burrata cheese made of Mozzarella and cream, and sherry vinegar.

The next course presents a difficult choice between four delicious entrees – especially if you enjoy steak, fish, and chicken, equally. A Marin Sun Farm Beef Roasted Rib Eye will be served with beef jus and one of my favorite things – carmelized shallots. The choices for fish include two different truffle sauces. A Truffled Lobster Sauce will accompany the Bodega Bay Halibut and a Spicy Truffle Vinaigrette will compliment an Atlantic Stripped Bass. If you prefer chicken, a Roasted Breast and Lemon Glazed Thigh of Clucky Plucky Chicken will also be served.

The final challenge, one that I’m sure anyone will be up for, will be deciding which scrumptious dessert to choose. There will be Desantis Farm lemon pudding, Satsuma Mandarin consumme citrus salad, and the traditional French Buche de Noel.
